Asking for an explanation for his conduct, which Wagner finds inexplicable, saying it is impossible that it is the miserable business of the opera seats that has so deeply wounded him, asking M. Lucy to forgive the offensive character of Wagner's letter, which completely escaped him when he wrote it, noting with what special satisfaction he has read the recipient's articles on Tannhäuser, saying "Je crois bien, qu'il est plus facile de vivre avec Rossini qu'avec moi," etc.
